The Benefits of Carpet Tiles in Offices

When you’re in the process of planning an office renovation, one important feature to think about is the flooring for your new space. Not only does flooring make a significant decorative statement throughout the office, it can affect the workplace in other ways. For example, hard flooring such as ceramic tile or vinyl, can look visually impactful but this material can also make it easier for sound to carry throughout the space, which can be a distraction to workers.

If noise control is a priority, carpeting can be a great option to consider. Carpeting can also be more comfortable to walk or stand on, reduces the risk of people slipping and falling as they walk around, and can make spaces feel warmer by holding heat more effectively than hard flooring. There are two main types of carpet to choose from: broadloom and tiles. Broadloom is provided and installed in large rolls, creating minimal seams during installation. Carpet tiles are smaller sections of carpeting, generally a square, rectangular, or plank shape, which are installed individually. Carpet tiles have become a popular choice for commercial spaces because of some unique benefits they have over broadloom.

Durability & Replacement

One of the biggest concerns people have about using carpet in offices is that it would get damaged easily or quickly start to look worn. Commercial carpeting, in general, is designed to be more durable than residential carpeting so that it can keep up with the extra foot traffic and other demands that offices have. Additionally, carpet tiles have a denser backing that provides extra stability to further improve durability. If damage does occur to a section of carpeting, carpet tiles make it very easy to replace only the damaged section instead of having to replace large sections. Not only is this much easier than replacing all of the carpet in a given area, it’s more cost effective and reduces waste by keeping undamaged carpet from ending up in landfills.

Creative Options

One of the biggest benefits of carpet tiles is that they give you a lot of options to get creative. Whether your company’s style is traditional and formal, bold and edgy, or something in between, carpet tiles can let you create a look that’s distinctly your own. One idea is to use carpet tiles in one color, but alternate the directions they’re installed in so that the patterns contrast. Or you could mix and match colors to create a fun checkerboard pattern. The possibilities are endless!

Less Waste

Many companies are interested in making their offices more environmentally friendly and that’s something carpet tiles can help with. We mentioned that carpet tiles can reduce waste by making it easy to replace only damaged sections of carpeting as needed, but carpet tiles can also help reduce waste during installation. Rolls of broadloom carpeting come in set widths, which means rolls will need to be cut unless it’s being installed in a space that matches those increments. When rolls of broadloom get cut, the excess ends up in a landfill. However, since carpet tiles are smaller, it’s easier to order the exact amount you need, preventing usable materials from going to waste.
